Before you start out riding a motorcycle on the road, unless you already hold a full motorcycle licence, or in certain cases a full moped licence*, you will be required to undertake Compulsory Basic Training.
The CBT was introduced by the government in 1990 and since its inception has reduced the number of motorcycle accidents by 50%.
This is a one day course which teaches you fundamental machine control, maintenance, road craft and gives you the necessary confidence and knowledge to ride your motorcycle safely on the road.
You will also be given information on the best clothing to wear including helmets, gloves and boots.
As the name suggests this is a training day. There is no test at the end of it and it should be a fun day of learning. When you achieve the necessary standard you will be issued with a DL196, your CBT certificate, and will then be entitled to ride an appropriate sized motorcycle or moped on the road.
The price of this course includes bike hire, helmet, waterproofs and comprehensive insurance.
